Walk it off...

Louisville Women’s Rugby is a member of the non-profit Louisville Rugby Inc. We seek to promote the sport of rugby in the Louisville area and field competitive teams to represent the community in local, regional and national events and tournaments. Founded in 1996, Louisville Women’s Rugby is currently in rebuilding mode after losing many of the charter members to retirement. Still, the team boasts a roster of 26, and plays a full calendar of games. Fall and spring seasons pit 15-member squads against each other. Summer rugby features high-speed, 7-on-7 games. In addition, the team collects for Kentucky Harvest at all home games and participates in numerous conditioning activities, fund-raisers and recruiting events throughout the year.

Louisville rugby players come from a wide cross-section of the community. College students and mothers with children play side-by-side. Biophysicists pass the ball off to carpenters, waitresses and ministers. . The current roster includes residents of downtown Louisville high-rises and county homes in Carrollton. Players range in size and experience, but all are committed to improving health and fitness in a team environment with the goal of putting a championship team on the field. Practices are held locally at Cherokee Park and other venues. Games are played Saturdays at Cherokee Park and in the communities we visit.

Louisville Women’s Rugby plays teams from other communities such as Nashville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Memphis and Columbus, Ohio, on a regular basis. It competes in tournaments in the local area and occasionally as far as Florida and Little Rock, Ark. As the club continues to grow, it can begin to consider additional events, longer trips and more interaction with the community.
